Dunes on the Moon is the recording project of Josh Zimmermann, moving between lo-fi psychedelia, ambient soundscapes, and hypnotic rhythms in the spirit of krautrock. At its core lies the search for a floating, levitating sonic state. The upcoming EP Doppelgänger (April 2026) opens up this sonic universe and strives for a state in which melody and atmosphere can unfold freely. A journey between movement, depth, and subtle intensity.
Tell us about the best concert you ever played!
at the festival “Kosmische Ferienspiele” in the TikTak Studios in the countryide of Frankfurt, home to Kraut legends NEWMEN. Why? The studio was already a safe haven for artists and eccentrics from frankfurt in the 70s and that magic was still alive. since our music is influenced by the push and pull of the city and nature the atmosphere was perfect. We got great feedback and were invited again next year.
To whom does your music speak?
People who experience music as a journey.
Our music speaks to listeners who are generally more drawn to atmosphere and have a longer attention span than 2 minutes ;). But it”s still a LOT about melody, so there are definitely pop structures in the sound which make it more accesible to a larger audience as well.
How do you envision your musical journey?
free from pressure 🙂 The music contains a lot of improvisation and that by definition means surrendering. The project has so far mainly been a recording project so now we’re really excited to bring it to the stage. Live music should 100% be about connecting, especially in these times, and we want do to exactly that. This year will kick off the start the live journey of the project and we’ll take it from there.
