Description

Isotta Tom is a multilingual songwriter. She began songwriting at 16, leading a rock band and playing piano. With roots in musical theatre and cinema, she brought her music to Shanghai after winning the Artistic Prize at the Chinese Bridge Competition. A graduate of the Bernstein School of Musical Theatre, she trained internationally and gained national visibility as a judge on AllTogetherNowItaly at Cinecittà. After many appearances in Sanremo’s off circuit, she sang in Mandarin on VivaRai2.

Tell us about the best concert you ever played!

I love blending pop with cinematic flair, poetic lyrics, and soft electronic textures. One of my most meaningful concerts was at the MEI Festival in Faenza, where I performed twice. Another unforgettable moment was in Alcamo, Sicily, where a blind woman was moved to tears by my music. When I was 19, I had the chance to sing one of my original songs in Chinese in China, which was surreal and powerful. And in Bologna at Bravo Caffè, I performed a soul-infused set with Doja Cat’s backing vocalist.

To whom does your music speak?

My music speaks to someone different each time – and always to a version of myself I’m still becoming. I write for my younger self, hoping others can feel the sweetness and strength it takes to speak kindly to oneself. Songwriting, for me, starts with a detail — a silence, a glance — and becomes a bridge. I sing in Italian, English, German, French, and Chinese to connect across languages and emotions. The more I write from what I truly know, the more others seem to find themselves in it.

How do you envision your musical journey?

I see my musical journey as a map drawn from many disciplines, cultures, and inner voices. I move between songwriting, performance, and theater like a traveler collecting stories. I wanna keep growing in depth and reach — from intimate venues to international festivals. I blend poetry, movement, and storytelling into live experiences that feel both ancient and contemporary. On stage, I often bring actors and dancers to enrich the narrative and make each performance visual and emotional.
